GOTN – Season 2 Preview
The battle for North America Call of Duty 2’s premier online tournament is back for Season 2. On January 25th, the quest for the trophy will begin. The rostermania that followed NA’s second lan of 2025, in Columbus, Ohio, saw shakeups at all tiers of the community. Not at all surprising, as many of these teams are hoping that these moves get them to the next level.
The format has been confirmed. For the regular season, a weekly bo3 on a rotating map list where every map matters. For the playoffs, the top 8 will battle it out in a double elimination bo3 until the finals, which will be bo5. (play-ins TBD) The next biggest change alongside the rotating map list for Season 2 will be the expansion to 9 maps. Railyard_mjr makes it’s way into the season, bringing back a much needed snowy precense to the pool. Vallente becomes the 9th map, joining train_bhg which stays from LAN2.
The Hope
Bricked Up
dougski, myLo, dirty_german, 1ShoT, polo, tripel (6th)

Nothing revolutionary here. The winners of LANs 1 and 2 headline the list for GOTN Season 2. With an unsurprisingly unchanged roster, this team will look to correct one of their only blemishes, not winning GOTN Season 1. The bricked boys bring in tripel to support as the 6th man, and with the hectic schedules of this crew, he looks to see a lot of playing time this season. Whether they’re bricked up or tucked up, this team will be looking to win GOTN Season 2.
Janitorz
harold, nytrix, hostage, jay, gl4d

The cleaning crew re-tooled after LAN1 and the results showed. After a lackluster LAN1 performance, the boys whipped out the latest top of the line Dysons and came out mopping. The winners of GOTN Season 1 made it all the way to the end of LAN2 in Columbus, before falling to the perfect Bricked Up team that tournament. This team has righted their wrongs, and are a force to be reckoned with. They are back to online in force, winning the GOTN Winter Classic this past week. As it stands, Janitorz are all but a lock for top 3 this season.
Hopefuls
APES
shell, zack, brisk, panther, woody, kosmo (6th)

Arguably the most talented core in the scene is always in the running for the title. After back to back 3rd place finishes as LANs 1 & 2, and a second place in GOTN Season 1, they still chase that first, elusive victory as a group. Led by shell, this group will be looking to right their wrongs and have the roster fully capable of doing so. Panther, a part of the GOTEM crew that dominated 2021, moves off the shotgun and into his more familiar role. This team hope that that move, along with the addition of woody at the shotgun position will be enough to push them over the hump. Brisk and Zack, elite fraggers round out this roster who will be pushing for more. It’s unlikely anyone bumps this team out of the top 4. They even changed their awful, temporary name to something….less terrible?
Sedated
willzki, zondo, tanaka, telly, finessed

x6 is no more. Sedated is here, and hoping to stay. After this core’s surprise finals appearance at LAN 1, the online scene proved to be a bit tougher. They only managed fourth place in GOTN Season 1 before making a roster move. Bringing tanaka in, brought the team their first piece of silverware, taking down the pre-lan Media Cup which had 11 of the 13 LAN teams participating, including all of the top 6. With the group finally able to get the monkey off their back, spirits were high heading into LAN2. A 4th place crashout result there sends them back to the drawing board, but GOTN Season 2 gives them a quick bounceback opportunity.

Spawn X
zyk, nightmare, tox, trauma, birdman, berry (6th)

The remnants of a blown up middle tier reappear in a spawn near you…we think? Frenchman zyk aka yanno aka zano aka…you get the point; puts together a cast of characters from a few of the broken pieces that actually equate to a pretty impressive pie. Zyk, formerly a many time cup winner with Janitorz, headlines a roster that is ready to make a splash. Nightmare leaves the community golf club after a disappointing LAN2, hoping to reignite the flame under a new flag. The T brothers, Tox and Trauma stay together after a respectable performance in Columbus, joining the spawnbros after empyrean broke up. The roster is rounded out by community legend and every-hat wearer Birdman, who will likely be taking up most of the shotgunning duties. Berry may even make a surprise appearance this season, if called upon. No doubt the immediate goal for this team will be top 6, but with how much the middle tier improved this offseason, this group will have to work for the results.
Awakening
nilla, neoo, verb, xlzz, reflex, darkartz (6th)

The Awakening boys have been on the tier 1 cusp for awhile. A talented roster, but the results haven’t followed. After another 5/6 finish (league + LAN) the group is showing they are devoted to reaching the next level. After cutting ties with tipzy, Awakening made a big splash early in free agency grabbing reflex from a disbanded Nemesis. The first event with a pug of this group in the winter classic did not go well, but seeing as it’s offseason, they’ll use it as a lesson and hope to move past it when it counts.
Unknown Players
caseman, trump, sixxer, ethix, tipzy, nova (6th)

It seems like UP has already hit rock bottom and rebounded. After an inspiring Media Cup top 4 finish prior to LAN2, it seemed that everything that could have gone wrong went wrong for this team in Columbus. After losing the opening match in thrilling fashion to GOONS, UP limped out of groups, before quickly losing both series on Sunday’s playoffs, leading to an earlier than expected exit. That being said, the team has revamped the roster. After losing nightmare and nova, the team quickly brought back team OG ethix, and then picked up tipzy formerly of Awakening. The results already seem to be back, with the group having a strong Winter Classic, losing in the semifinals to eventual champions Janitorz. They will hope this is a sign of things to come.
Goons
1200, athn, zexi, justsam, cru!zer, redz (6th)

Who called cap that? Columbus left a lot to be desired for this group. But to their credit, they rightfully stayed together, and took it on the chin as a learning experience. THE disappointment from LAN2 have a chance to right some of their wrongs in GOTN Season 2. Will they be called “onliners” if they do well? Probably, but that should be the least of their worries going into this season. The team with probably the widest range of results in our community, can go from taking down the top dogs one day, to getting grouped at LAN the next. It’s only up from here for GOONS, who still deserve to be in this tier due to some of their highest highs. They have what it takes to surprise anyone, anytime, but they’re going to need to start delivering soon.
Rat Squad
kkz, chuck, pooperman, kevlar, everestt, wrenches (6th), oliver (7th)

Rat squad (and friends) see a reunited core returning to the community. Highlighed by some of the top players who weren’t able to attend LAN2, kkz and chuck, this team will be looking to reach for the stars. After being the only team to take down the champions of the Winter Classic, Janitorz, they somehow got grouped in the event. If nothing else, this proves that every match for this team will be entertaining, and we won’t know what to expect. With wrenches on the “bench” this team has the potential to tap him in more than people expect.
Hoping to be Hopefully Hopefuls
Strokers
loose, warboy, abk, broa, nytrous, forsaken (6th), hero (7th)

The strokers made a few big moves this offseason. With hero and forsaken moving to the bench indefinitely, the boys boosted their squad witht he addition of Broa from a disabanded Nemesis. One of the most wanted men before LAN2, broa & nemesis fought for a respectable 5/6 finish in Columbus. But fate had him reuniting with LOOSE and abk, 3 members of the Season 1 squad +VIBE. Speaking of vibes, they are likely to be through the roof on this team, and they’re hoping that they can make that magic work from them this season.
Modern Automobile
eric, jocco, adept, roflcakes, icono

The modern automobile has finally completed it’s build. The eric & adept project reaches the second leg, as they round out the lineup with Jocco, rofl and icono. Jocco, who last played with Old School during GOTN Season 1, before returning home for the Major in europe, will look to be the staple shotgun in this lineup and bring much needed pace. Roflcakes, who attended LAN2 with empyrean, is a solid pickup for this group and will look to be the balance the squad is looking for.
Nephilim
magnum, stiffy, k1mble, ashen, brutaL, timmer, c4rve

Nephilim retain the entirety of their core, but with a few people only able to play sparingly over the next few months, they make a few key additions. BrutaL and timmer, who both played with the Roll The Dice at LAN2, bolster an already competitive roster that may see some of the guns shifting around, depending on the lineup at the particular time. The positive additions should give the team newfound ideas, as well as a bit of hope. Time will tell with this roster, but with the recent performance of Magnum, and a little bit of strategizing, they can possibly begin to dream.
