Regular Season Recap – Group A

Regular Season Recap – Group A

THE TOP

There was still plenty to play for in the final week of Group A, and it delivered. With a few makeup matches needing to be played, as well as week 7 matmata matches between the top three, it took until the last days to decide the order of the group. But after a thrilling season with the top 3 each splitting the season series against each other 1-1, we got a 3 way tie at the top with everyone at 12-2, meaning that the seeding came down to tiebreakers.

THE MIDDLE – DEATH AND AO

Well, honestly the middle was supposed to be more of a fight. It was anyway, until the final week. Farmers/lockdown couldn’t stay alive to keep a roster alive despite being right in the race, and then GGG decided to go ahead and get themselves banned. That left goons, who did what they had to. They lost to the top 6, beat the bottom 3, and then split the season series with ggg, a solid and expected 7-7. They had a few close calls with Awakening however, and could have easily taken one of the two from them if one or two things had swung their way. They will face one of the teams who rise from the play-in stage in Playoffs round 1.

Match of the Season – Group A

We expected plenty of great matches from the group given the composition, and those matches were delivered. But there was clearly one that stood above the rest. For that, we have to go all the way back to early April, where we saw “The Axis” game. Yes, the match Axis won the first 23 rounds of the match. Awakening took a 12-0 lead on Dawnville, before just a squickly being in a 12-11 position later in the match. Awakening was able to close out the match by winning round 24, the first allied won round.
