Week One Recap – Group B

Week One Recap – Group B

Group B has concluded their week one matches and the positive vibes are absolutely throbbing. The cummunity was able to get 8 different groups of old men together to get all the weeks games in by Wednesday, a feat nobody thought was possible.

true

The big surprise of Group B was Wizards, a team who came into this week looking really good in practice with their new roster, losing both of their matches. BO1’s will naturally have high variance to begin with, but add in the beauty of the Map of the Week format, and the matchups matter even more. Wizards have called Dawnville their “first ban” – so it remains to be seen how much it will hurt them in the end. Expect them to bounce back as they have some of their more favorable maps in the pool coming in the next few weeks. I sat down with Tanaka to get his thoughts:

Nemesis upsets Wizards

Nemesis pulling off an early upset in week one begins to throw a bit of a wrench into this group. This result should open up the group and amplify the fight for the playoffs. x6 and janitorz were able to take care of business, and begin the season on a positive note. Nephilim, with their matches against the top two seeds behind them, can now look forward to do some damage. Old School came into this group with a few eye popping results over the last few weeks, but failed to make an impact in week one.

Performance of the Week (Group B): broa

broa pops off

We didn’t have to wait long for Group B’s performance of the week. In the first reported match on Tuesday, broa put on an absolute clinic against a solid Old School squad. It only took him 18 rounds to gobble up 32 frags. Broa had expressed to me earlier in the week that he was feeling very under the weather, so it’s no shock that he had to pull out his Jordan flu game.

The ex-farmer has come out hot in his new role as a scope and it didn’t take long at all for him to make a splash. Broa had this to say after the matches:

Lucky is the best word for what I’m feeling. Threw together a team of individuals right before deadline. Didn’t play a single game together until that first match, I’m not even sure I had heard abk’s voice until then. Then we played two matches and disregarding the score lines the team felt natural. We’ve got a great group of players who have expressed their desire to improve individually and develop deeper team play.

Scoping has been fun, but it wont be permanent. I’ll play utility man and fill the holes needed to balance the team. We’ve got other players who might suit that role and I’m not looking to limit the team or the players.

I told everyone, off the rip, that I had no expectations for this season and that still remains true. With that being said, the boys have shown up with an eagerness that surprised me, having notes about the opposition and ideas for the future. The team objective, exceeding mine, is at a minimum striving for growth and I’m all for it. To prepare, we are examining one another’s playstyles through demos and getting much needed game time together (big brain tactics, I know). We will see how it plays out in the coming weeks. Whatever outcome, top team or bottom team, I’m just lucky to be playing CoD2 in the year of our Lord (Chris) 2025.” -broa

Match of the Week (Group B): UP 13 – 11 Wizards

UP takes down Wizards in Group B’s MOTW

Unknown Players aka UP put together a great week, being the third team in this group to go 2-0. They did it in thrilling fashion, doing just enough take down Wizards on dawnville. Notable performances by nightmare and trump propelled this team to a win that will begin to allow them to sort of control their destiny so to speak as things move forward. They look forward to a huge matchup vs Janitorz on Toujane next week. Caseman had this to say after the match:

We expected to beat Wizards but going into the match there were a couple unknown variables. Wizards has continued to improve every week and we just recently had the roster change of ethix to nova. Starting allies can sometimes prove to be a test of mental strength and it was exactly that. We went down 9-3 and proceed to lose the first axis round making it 10-3. At that point we locked it in and won 9 rounds in a row to eventually land at 13-11. Overall we performed well enough to win and I think given the mental test and come back we accepted it as a successful win. – caseman
