Week One Recap – Group A

Week One Recap – Group A

Group A concluded late Sunday night with an important match between two teams expected to be fighting for playoff spots. Goons came into the match 1-0 off an impressive victory vs Team Pedro, while Farmers were coming off a loss against group powerhouses Awakening. The result of this one could end up having huge impact when it comes to group seeding.

Farmers had a solid, but slightly underwheling 8-4 defensive side. They seemed to control the play for most of the half, but ended up losing a few very close rounds to keep goons in it. They came out on allies absolutely firing, winning 3 of the first 4 rounds to go up 11-5. Goons were not to be denied that easily though, as they picked up 8 rounds in succession to win 13-11.

Performance of the Week (Group A): neoo

Awakening take down farmers

Neoo put on an absolute clinic this week against two formidable opponents. After dropping 23 to take down a resilient farmers squad, neo popped off for another 20 as the team took down group juggernauts +forward. Awakening has come out of the gates rolling, and if there were any lingering questions about this new roster needing time to gel and work out the kinks, it seems that they have been answered. Neoo and nilla have been trading the scope to start the season, so look for that to continue as long as the success does. Neoo had this to say after the match:

Honestly the team has been feeling great since we started playing together. The match against +forward was really eye opening on what we need to focus on moving forward.neoo

Match of the Week (Group A): Awakening 13 – 11 +forward

Awakening outlast +forward on Dawnville

You wouldn’t know it by looking at the final screenshot, but this match was an absolute shocker. While Dawnville is a heavily defensive sided map, you would never expect the match to have only ONE allied sided round won between the two teams. That’s right, ONE ALLIED ROUND WON.

Awakening got the ball rolling early stopping every coordinated push +forward threw at them. In almost every round, the team were able to get early scope and rifle picks in grave or on cross, and it shut down +forwards ability to get any momentum going. Finishing the half up 12-0, you would expect that the match would get closed up pretty quickly, as the team just needed one round. A fluke, a good push, a great individual effort, anything.

But no, it didn’t happen. Not at least until the 12th round of the half, the 24th round of the match. In round 24, FINALLY an allied round was won. It was the one that they needed, though, and they were able to secure the victory with it.

+forward started Axis just as strong as Awakening did. There were a few rounds that started as an allied advantage that +forward were able to claw back and win, or clutch, including an incredible ace+clutch from Zack on the scope. In the end, they fell just short of one of, if not the most insane combacks in call of duty 2 history. This match delivered. If you missed it, do yourself a favor and go watch it back on GOTN Twitch.

nilla had this to say after the match:

Glad was a key player that we had to replace, but this duo of Neoo and Xlzz is going to be an issue for other teams. Their addition to this roster has been eye-opening and I believe in time it will be clear that this is an upgraded and more explosive version of High Noon nilla

Team Pedro El Menoor had polzarizing performances this week, losing 13-1 to an impressive goons squad, but coming right back and taking down mOo 13-5. If that tells us anything, it’s that it doesn’t tell us much. This teams erratic performances could make for some interesting results for this group in the coming weeks, though. At the risk of getting banned from the internet, we will not be showing their screenshots this week, you’ll have to take our word for it on the scores. Axzn had this to say after the matches:

Fluke loss, that’ll never happen again. Goon busted on our cheeks but we will be turning around and busting back all over our groups faces. – axzn

To close out the other matches; Bricked up took care of business, winning 13-6 & 13-3 vs mOo & BAMF respectively, and plus forward took down BAMF 13-4.
